MPower Sponsored CUGH Conference and Panel

Over three days in April, UMB faculty, staff, and students attended the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH) annual conference, "Global Health at a Crossroads: Equity, Climate Change and Microbial Threats" in Washington, D.C.

The University of Maryland Strategic Partnership: MPowering the State (MPower) was a conference sponsor, bringing together the University of Maryland, Baltimore and the University of Maryland, College Park. Boris Lushniak, MD, MPH, Dean of the School of Public Health at University of Maryland, participated in the Welcome Session on the opening day.

MPower sponsored a plenary session on Transformative Partnerships with the National Public Health Institutes for Sustained Global Health Implementation and Research, moderated by Man Charurat, PhD, MHS, Director of IHV Division of Epidemiology and Prevention and Global Director for the Center of International Health, Education, and Biosecurity (CIHEB). The panel featured:

  • Ifedayo Adetifa, PhD, MSc, Director General of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control
  • Matthew Kagoli, Director General (Acting) of the Public Health Institute of Malawi
  • Alash'le Abimiku, PhD, Executive Director of the International Research Center of Excellence, Institute of Human Virology in Nigeria

The Center for Global Engagement at UMB sponsored the registration of 10 UMB students: Ahlam Ashkar, Olivia Babick, Shania Bailey, Angella Bbosa, Karen Jaynes, Hanna LeBuhn, Nicholas Leahy, Cheryl Murphy, Shivakumar Narayanan, and Alexis Vetack.
